“At the forefront of credit structures, securitisation, and financial guaranty since 1985.”
Investors Guaranty Fund, Ltd. (“IGF”) was established 20 years ago and is a limited liability insurance company incorporated and continuously operating in Bermuda since 1985. IGF provides global insurance and investment solutions, as well as capital funding and financial technologies to insurance and capital market institutions and intermediaries. IGF is privately held by over 150 shareholders throughout the world.
- IGF has been active in the development of advanced credit, security, and guaranty structures since inception. Its founders were pioneers in the financial guaranty markets, credit collateralisation, and created insurance securitisation.
- In 1989, IGF pioneered financial guaranty of non-investment grade and non-rated municipal bonds, when municipal bonds it insured were rated “AAA” by Standard & Poor’s.
- In July of 1991, Her Majesty granted Royal Assent to the passage of a private Act of the Parliament of Bermuda, giving special powers governing operations and security of IGF’s insurance policies, policyholder reserves, and capital structure – the Investors Guaranty Fund, Ltd. (Policyholder Reserves) Act, 1991 (the “IGF Act”). As a result of the IGF Act, IGF believes it has created the world’s first bankruptcy-proof segregated reserve infrastructure. Portions of the legislation governing the Company’s proprietary structure are, in part, now being utilised by insurance companies and investment funds in many jurisdictions which have adopted forms of the original legislation embodied in the IGF Act including various states in the United States.
- IGF and its shareholders have expended substantial sums in the development of this proprietary, bankruptcy-proof security structure, and two core technologies – insurance securitisation and loss mitigation financial obligations (Adjustable Rate GIA™) – both of which are subject to patents in the United States and in countries around the world.
- Leading rating agencies have rated and/or confirmed their willingness to rate policies issued by and bonds insured by IGX Insurers, including Adjustable Rate GIA™, in their highest respective ratings category.
- In 1998, IGF formed three Bermuda statutory reserve insurance subsidiaries, subject to the IGF Act and extensive regulation, and each are by law, wholly-owned subsidiaries, and with IGF comprise the IGX “Insurers”:
- Investors Guaranty Assurance, Ltd. – a life/annuity insurance company – the primary issuer of Adjustable Rate GIA™ and guaranteed investment contracts. Establishment of interest crediting rates within applicable market caps and floors for all Adjustable Rate GIA™ series issued by IGA are supported by IGF’s interest reserves and surplus under a financial guaranty reinsurance treaty (“parent company guarantee”).
- Investors Financial Guaranty, Ltd. – a monoline financial guaranty insurance company focused on insuring asset risks and providing financial guarantees.
- Investors Guaranty Insurance, Ltd. – a general lines insurer, insuring traditional and nontraditional multi-lines perils.
